FC Dallas Still Interested In Re-Signing George John Long Term
FC Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman indicated that the team was still interested in trying to sign John to a longterm contract. John and his agent have resisted in the past. His contract, which currently pays him just $42,000, is due to run out at the end of 2012. According to the MLSsoccer.com article, John was noncommittal about the possibility of re-signing with Dallas. He said he met with teammates and seemed to think there were no hard feelings.

That was apparently more than a mere formality, as many of us assumed. FC Dallas President Doug Quinn made a point of telling fans on Wednesday that the deal was not finalized, something he was happy to remind everyone of on Sunday:

The exact price that Blackburn has agreed to pay MLS for John’s rights is still not known, but the rumors have put it around $2 million. That might not seem like a huge amount of money, but FC Dallas would get about $1.25 of that, which could pay for a Designated Player or two.

John told Big D Soccer that he already is a Greek citizen, so obtaining the proper paperwork should be little more than a formality. John is currently making just $42,000 a year, so a move to the EPL would likely mean a huge pay raise. Previous reports have suggested that Blackburn was offering about $2 million to acquire John’s rights.
