On Friday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Dave O’Brien reports that Sunday’s game between the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets has been postponed. The final game of the three-game series was to be played in New York, where Hurricane Irene is expected to hit Sunday.
Hurricane Irene Threat Reportedly Forces Postponement Of Sunday’s Mets-Braves Game
As of this writing, no official announcement has been made by the team, but ESPN’s Adam Rubin expects the game to be made up September 8th, in between the Braves’ series at Philadelphia and St. Louis. In addition, Saturday’s game, which was originally slated to start at 4 p.m. Eastern, has been bumped up to 1 p.m.
At 61-68, the Mets’ odds of winning a playoff spot are practically nil. Although the Braves are the likely N.L. Wild Card winner, however, they’ve whittled the Phillies’ lead in the East down to six games. A make-up game would likely eliminate the only rest day of a six-game road trip, and such a demanding schedule can make it just a little more difficult to make a run down the home stretch.
