Via Marlins beat writer Clark Spencer, we learn of yet another Hurricane Irene related postponement:
Hurricane Irene Cancels Marlins/Phillies Game Saturday
Today’s #Marlins #Phillies game has been canceled
With Sunday’s game already postponed until Sept. 15, it’s not clear when this game can or will be made up. It isn’t likely to have much effect on pennant races, so it could wind up being cancelled and not rescheduled.
Also, in Boston, Athletics beat writer Susan Slusser tweets of potential problems with the Red Sox/Athletics doubleheader, currently in the fifth inning of game one:
OK, it’s now an official game – and the umpire crew chief is talking to the groundskeeper right now. Not a good sign. #Athletics
Televised reports indicate it has begun raining at Fenway Park; the Red Sox lead 8-2 in the bottom of the fifth, so the game could be called and go into the books. If Game 2 cannot be played, it’s uncertain when a makeup date could be scheduled.
