Last week at this time there was rampant speculation that the Denver Broncos were talking with the Miami Dolphins regarding a trade for QB Kyle Orton. It appeared a deal was likely to happen, based on reports, but ultimately it didn't go through.
Kyle Orton Won’t Be Traded, Will Start For Broncos, According To Report
Orton earned a $1.5 million bonus last weekend so the story turned and it was believed Orton would not be traded. According to a report from NFL Network’s Michael Lombardi, Orton was told by the Broncos that he will not be traded and he is their starting quarterback.
After the trade talks with the Dolphins ended, it seemed less likely a deal will get done. For the Broncos, this means Orton has the leg up on QB Tim Tebow. There was a school of thought that the Broncos wanted Tebow to start but, going by this report, that’s unlikely to happen.
Orton is reportedly earning over $8 million in 2011, which is one of the reasons the Broncos were entertaining trades. Orton has been the primary starter with the Broncos for two consecutive seasons so, for now, that remains the same.
