Broncos QB Kyle Orton will remain just that -- the Broncos QB. The team reportedly told him he won’t be traded and he is the starting QB.
Kyle Orton Won’t Be Traded, Will Start For Broncos, According To Report
Orton earned a $1.5 million bonus last weekend so the story turned and it was believed Orton would not be traded. According to a report from NFL Network’s Michael Lombardi, Orton was told by the Broncos that he will not be traded and he is their starting quarterback.
After the trade talks with the Dolphins ended, it seemed less likely a deal will get done. For the Broncos, this means Orton has the leg up on QB Tim Tebow. There was a school of thought that the Broncos wanted Tebow to start but, going by this report, that’s unlikely to happen.

If that’s the case, we’re not sure who will pick Orton up. He reportedly wants to be a starter wherever he goes so that’s something to consider. He’s due over $8 million in 2011 so whoever picks him up would likely want to re-work his contract as well.
It seems unlikely that the Broncos would keep Orton in Denver with his salary but crazier things have happened. It’s a situation to keep an eye on as quarterback jobs around the league are starting to get filled.

Apparently, the trade won’t be the hard part -- it’ll be a new contract. Orton is due $9 million 2011 but wants a long-term deal that will pay him over $6 million per year.
That leaves the Dolphins who, according to the Sun-Sentinel, have Orton atop their quarterback wish list right now. Kelly writes the Dolphins “appear” to be the front-runner for Orton right now.
