Jeff Legwold of the Denver Post chronicles the latest maneuverings involving Denver Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton and a possible trade to the Miami Dolphins. The problem is that Orton will earn $8.8 million this year and then become a free agent after the season, and free agent starting quarterbacks are very valuable. So he’s in great shape right where he is, particularly given that reports out of Broncos camp indicate that Orton is ahead of Tim Tebow right now. There’s no good reason for Orton to agree to an extension with the Dolphins unless they give him a lot of money.
Kyle Orton’s Immediate Future Unclear With Trade To Miami Dolphins In Doubt
Gregg Rosenthal of NBC Sports has a good recap of the latest on Orton, and he links to a piece from the Miami Herald that indicates that an Orton-to-Miami deal might still happen, despite Orton’s stance on his contract and the Dolphins’ recent acquisition of Matt Moore. I wouldn’t bet on it, though. We’ll just have to wait and see, but each day Orton remains with the Broncos lessens the chance that he’ll wind up in Miami.
