The status of Northwestern Wildcats quarterback Dan Persa and his ongoing recovery from a particularly nasty Achilles injury has been a little frustrating to watch. But all signs point to Persa making his return on Saturday against the undefeated Illinois Fighting Illini. Here's the man himself:
Dan Persa Injury: Saturday Vs. Illinois Should Be The Day
"I'm ready to go," Persa said. "I don't consider myself injured anymore."
Coach Pat Fitzgerald doesn’t either, and isn’t going to hold back his excitement at getting one of the Big Ten’s best quarterbacks back:
“I’m not going to overanalyze it,” he said. “I think the guy’s pretty good. They put his picture on a billboard, so it’s pretty cool to get a guy like that back.”
Kain Colter has carried the load in Persa's absence, and done so respectably (65 percent completion, one interception) if unexplosively (one touchdown, 6.5 yards per attempt). There's no guarantee Persa will start, nor is there any assurance promising freshman Trevor Siemian won't get a handful of snaps as well.
