The Chicago Bears released defensive lineman Anthony Adams and offensive lineman Frank Omiyale on Thursday (via Chicago Tribune). After playing in all 16 games each of the previous two seasons, Adams played in just 11 games in 2011 and saw his production drop off. Adams did not have a sack and made just 16 tackles in 2011. Omiyale had been more of a swing lineman for the Bears and never quite found a home in three seasons.
Bears Release DT Anthony Adams, OL Frank Omiyale
“Cuts are never easy, but are a part of the evaluation process,” Bears general manager Phil Emery said in a statement. “We appreciate all that Anthony and Frank gave the Bears organization both on and off the field during their time in Chicago. We wish them the best moving forward.”
The cutting of Omiyale saves the Bears about $1.35 million against the salary cap as he was scheduled to carry a $2.8 million hit and was to be paid $2.1 million this season.
