49ers vs. Seahawks 2012: Seattle treats fans to playoff-clinching win

The Seattle Seahawks clinched a berth in the playoffs by dominating the 49ers in front of their home crowd on Sunday night.

Entering the week, the Seattle Seahawks were on a roll and needed one win to clinch a playoff spot. Not only did Seattle accomplish the feat in its blowout win over the San Francisco 49ers, but it kept its hot play going at home.

The contest was never close with the Seahawks leading from start to finish. The offense and special teams put up 28 points in the first half, while the defense limited the 49ers offense and quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Seattle's performance was impressive, but familiar to fans who have witnessed the Seahawks dominate the past three weeks.

From Field Gulls:

The Seahawks are the hottest team in the NFL right now, and it’s not close. They’ve outscored their last three opponents 150-30, and prior to the Niners’ breaking the 21-0 shutout with a David Akers field goal, were on a ridiculous 100-unanswered-point tear at The CLink.

Russell Wilson might not have been as dazzling as last week, but he orchestrated the Seattle offense to 11-for-12 on third down and 4-for-4 in the red zone. He finished with four touchdowns again (all through the passing game) and used his feet to escape numerous sacks.

The Seahawks will now be, at worst, a No. 5 seed heading into the postseason. They could also earn a No. 2 or No. 3 seed, depending on the results of Week 17.
