The alleged incident took place on Aug. 11, and Johnson was arrested the same day. According to accounts of the event, the couple began arguing when Lozada found a receipt for a box of condoms. Lozada was treated for a laceration on the scene and then transported to a local hospital.
The incident led to Johnson’s release from the Dolphins, which was documented in the current season of HBO’s “Hard Knocks” series. Johnson had a short discussion with Miami head coach Joe Philbin, reminding Philbin that he had never been in trouble before. The coach still said he felt it best for the Dolphins if they parted ways.

“The Dolphins, I let them down,” said Johnson during an occasionally profane montage showing the unemployed wide receiver working out on the beach and at the gym. “I messed up. I got to suffer the consequences. I made that bed I need to lay in it. So basically I got to start all over.”

Translated: Johnson got fired on TV. While roster cuts are nothing new for Hard Knocks - each summer the program’s narrative thread is built around a team sizing up position battles and trimming their roster before opening day - there’s likely never been one with this amount of star power, and for these circumstances.
Considering Philbin wasn’t a huge fan of Johnson’s antics before his arrest, we expect a less than warm tone for this week’s “dramatic” episode.

Chad Johnson’s public persona as a fun-loving, free-spirited entertainer who happened to play football will certainly take a hit as the story of his domestic violence arrest unfolds. But Johnson has prided himself on not getting arrested, and specifically on not committing acts of domestic violence, as this passage from Ocho Cinco: What Football And Life Have Thrown My Way, his 2007 autobiography with Yahoo! Sports’ Jason Cole, explains.
You see, the funniest part is that people think I’m so bad, but do you see one arrest on me since I got to the NFL? Do you see me getting suspended for using drugs or steroids? Do you see anything about me beating up my girlfriend or some other guys? No, none of that. Still, people think I’m this bad guy because I do some celebrations and talk trash and I’m flamboyant. Look, I’m working hard, I’m having fun, and nobody is going to stop me from having fun.The passage in question comes after Johnson discusses an incident at the 2008 Pro Bowl in which a reporter said he shoved an NFL employee. Lozada was treated on the scene for a laceration on her forehead before being transported to a local hospital.
