New York City Marathon results 2013: Marcel Hug and Tatyana McFadden win wheelchair divisions
Hug won a tight race, and McFadden won going away.
Hug, who won the silver medal at the T54 marathon at the 2012 Summer Paralympics, won in a tight race Sunday, crossing the finish line at Central Park first in a five-man pack. Runner-up Ernst Van Dyk of South Africa finished just in front of Kurt Fearnley of Australia, Masazumi Soejima of Japan and Kota Hokinoue, also of Japan. Hug’s official time was 1:40:14.
Georgia’s Krige Schabort was the top American in the men’s pushrim wheelchair, finishing in sixth place at 1:42:25.
McFadden’s race was not nearly as close. She crossed the finish line in 1:59:13, over 3½ minutes faster than runner-up Wakako Tsuchida of Japan. With the win, McFadden became the first in her division to win the marathon grand slam for the year, winning the Boston, London, Chicago and New York City marathons.
