Kenya’s Geoffrey Mutai won the men’s division of the New York City Marathon Sunday, finishing the race in 2:08:24. This is his second New York City Marathon win. Mutai has also won the Boston Marathon and Berlin Marathon.
New York City Marathon results 2013: Geoffrey Mutai wins marathon for 2nd time
Geoffrey Mutai secured his second New York City Marathon victory and blew away the competition.
Rounding out the top three in the men’s division Tsegaye Kebede out of Ethiopia who finished with a 2:09:16 time and Lushapo April of South Africa with a 2:09:45 finish. Kenya dominated the mens’ division with five participants finishing in the top-10 of the men’s division.
Mutai pulled away from the pack in the final mile and finished nearly a full minute ahead of Kebede. Mutai kept pace until around the mile mark. He then began his push for the first through the finish line.
Earlier, Marcel Hug (Switzerland) and Tatyana McFadden (Maryland, United States) won the wheelchair divisions.
Priscah Jeptoo, also from Kenya, finished first in the women’s division.
