Runners at the ING New York City Marathon will begin in Staten Island before finishing the race in Central Park.
Mutai, Jeptoo take home NYC Marathon titles

ElsaIt was a big day for Kenya at the 2013 New York City Marathon, with Geoffrey Mutai winning the men’s title and Priscah Jeptoo taking home the title on the women’s side. It was the third time in history Kenyans have swept the men’s and women’s titles.
Mutai, 32, won the men’s race in 2:08:24, nearly a minute better than the second-place finisher, Tsegaye Kebede of Ethiopia. However, Kebede took home the World Marathon Majors men’s title, which includes five major marathons, the Olympics and world championships.

Maddie MeyerKenya’s Geoffrey Mutai won the men’s division of the New York City Marathon Sunday, finishing the race in 2:08:24. This is his second New York City Marathon win. Mutai has also won the Boston Marathon and Berlin Marathon.
Rounding out the top three in the men’s division Tsegaye Kebede out of Ethiopia who finished with a 2:09:16 time and Lushapo April of South Africa with a 2:09:45 finish. Kenya dominated the mens’ division with five participants finishing in the top-10 of the men’s division.

Ian WaltonPriscah Jeptoo has won the women’s division of the New York City Marathon with a time of 2:25:07, 49 seconds ahead of the second place finisher.
It took an excellent comeback in the second half of the race for Jeptoo to capture the win. She was nearly three-and-a-half minutes behind Buzunesh Deba at the halfway point but began to catch up as the race entered Manhattan and overtook Deba with two miles remaining. The win earned her the World Marathon Majors title and the $500,000 bonus that comes with it.

Hannah JohnstonSwitzerland’s Marcel Hug won the men’s pushrim wheelchair division, and Maryland’s Tatyana McFadden won the women’s pushrim wheelchair division at the New York City Marathon on Sunday.
Hug, who won the silver medal at the T54 marathon at the 2012 Summer Paralympics, won in a tight race Sunday, crossing the finish line at Central Park first in a five-man pack. Runner-up Ernst Van Dyk of South Africa finished just in front of Kurt Fearnley of Australia, Masazumi Soejima of Japan and Kota Hokinoue, also of Japan. Hug’s official time was 1:40:14.
