Nelson Agholor wore out his welcome with the Eagles in less than 2 years

First-round draft picks are big investments so they get extra leeway to adjust to the NFL, but it looks like Nelson Agholor burned through all of it in less than two years with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Sunday looked like the breaking point for a team that seems fed up with waiting for the former USC Trojans star. Not only did he finish without a reception (he caught a two-point conversion), Agholor dropped what would’ve been a big play and nullified a go-ahead touchdown by not lining up correctly.

It was a momentum killer for the Eagles that took away what would’ve been a 14-13 lead and instead resulted in a punt. And the frustration for Philadelphia fans, coaches, and players has come to a head.

“You would think you can get lined up. That’s the basics of football,” Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins said after the game, via CSN Philly. “When you give up plays like that on a small little thing, you hurt yourself.”

“Get lined up, and on third and 15, don’t just offside,” Jenkins added. “So yeah, those things are signs of being undisciplined, and it’s not just in this game. It’s in other games. . . . That’s been the story line: just missed opportunities where one guy, two guys didn’t do their jobs.”

Like Jenkins said, it wasn’t just Agholor. The entire team has dealt with inconsistency and mistakes, and the receiver’s season has been a microcosm of that.

”The biggest thing with us is we have so many little mistakes every week, even when we win games,” Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz said. “We have so many mistakes that keep hurting us. We’re leaving big plays out there. We’re leaving scores out there. It’s simple things. We’ve got to detail our work. It’s frustrating.”

At 5-5, the Eagles aren’t out of the postseason hunt, but the other three teams in the NFC East all found wins in Week 11 and have winning records. If Philadelphia is going to make a run in the final six weeks it needs to clean up the mistakes, and that might mean Agholor sees less time.

The Eagles promoted wide receiver Paul Turner from the practice squad Monday. The undrafted rookie caught 17 passes in preseason and seemingly became a favorite of everyone in the organization.

Up next for the Eagles is a Monday Night Football game against the Green Bay Packers — a team so deficient at cornerback that it gave up 47 points to the Tennessee Titans and 42 points to Washington in the last two weeks. It could be exactly what the Eagles need to get back over .500 and on track once again.

The question is how involved Agholor will be now that he seems to have pissed off everyone in the organization.
