The 2018 NFL Combine is now over for running backs and offensive linemen. Here’s how the RBs did, and here are the OL results.
NFL Combine results 2018: News and notes from Friday
Saquon Barkley was Friday’s star as running backs and offensive linemen went through their drills. Meanwhile, the quarterbacks got their chance to shine ... on the mic.

Get caught up with all the best quotes and other action from Friday:
Lamar Jackson confirms he is, in fact, a quarterback
This shouldn’t need to be said but ...
No, he’s not going to play WR:
You did, Lamar!
He won’t run the 40, which really isn’t that important for quarterbacks who definitely aren’t wide receivers:
*chef’s kiss*
Josh Allen with some wise words
Never google yourself, never tweet:
He’s also working on his accuracy:
Everyone is comparing Sam Darnold to Baker Mayfield
So this is already getting old:
Darnold won’t throw at the combine, but he will at USC’s pro day:
J.T. Barrett doesn’t mind flying under the radar
After, like, 13 years as Ohio State’s quarterback, J.T. Barrett is fine ceding the spotlight:
Lamar Jackson, an agent (but still not a WR)
He’s got a good point:
Calvin Ridley is ready to go
Calvin Ridley is widely projected as the first wide receiver off the board this year.
What are you waiting for? Go read it!
Luke Falk talks to Dolphins
The Washington State quarterback was a little nervous meeting an Ace Ventura star:
Another reminder ...
Jaylen Samuels plays every position
He worked out with the tight ends, but that’s probably not where he’s playing in the NFL:
Yeah, this makes sense:
Josh Rosen, also quotable
Josh Rosen, just like Baker Mayfield said about himself, believes that he’s the top QB in this class:
But he also knows he’s interviewing for a job right now:
Baker Mayfield is not lacking in confidence, that’s for sure
Exhibit A:
Exhibit B:
Exhibit C:
Exhibit D:
Exhibit E:
Exhibit F:
(Going to run out of letters at some point.)
He’s also confident in his former teammate, despite Brown’s disappointing combine:
The highs and lows of the RB 40-yard dash
The leader was NC State’s versatile back Nyheim Hines, whose official time clocked in at 4.38:
Unfortunately for Ronald Jones, he pulled up while running his 40, coming in at just 4.66. He then walked off the field and will not participate the rest of the day. Jones has been dealing with a hamstring injury for a couple weeks. If he’s not seriously injured, he’ll likely run again at USC’s pro day on March 21.
Bo knows the broad jump
Bo Scarbrough, all 228 pounds of him, put on a show in the broad jump:
His official jump was well off that number — but still impressive and still the best at his position:
Saquon Barkley Time!
The best running back in the draft is all ready to make everyone swoon again:
That’s just two inches short of the running back record since 2006.
Take a minute to fan yourself after this:
The greatest thing you’ll see today:
Mayock was just as impressed with Barkley’s 40-yard dash, calling it “outstanding”:
His official time was 4.40.
The 49ers and Raiders flipped a coin, wooooooo
And now, the main event: the coin flip between the Raiders and 49ers that determined who picks No. 9 and who picks No. 10 in this year’s draft. ‘
The result: the 49ers won the coin toss, which is no surprise with Jimmy Garoppolo on their side:
Also not a surprise: John Lynch declined to say who they would draft at No. 9.
As you can tell, the Raiders contingent was heartbroken:
And Jon Gruden looked like he already regrets his return to coaching:
Piesman, represent!
Brian O’Neill, the 2016 Piesman Trophy winner and touchdown machine, turned heads in the 40:
Quenton Nelson can’t run the 40 and he’s mad about it
Notre Dame guard has been nothing short of impressive so far at the combine. In fact, he could be the best player in the entire draft.
Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to participate in the 40-yard dash:
We doubt that will hurt his draft stock.
Jumpman Jumpman
Who knows if this will boost Kolton Miller’s draft stock, but it’s still dang cool:
This should turns some heads, too:
Good news for a potential first-round OL
Ohio State offensive lineman Billy Price was injured Thursday three reps into his bench press. He has a torn pec, but luckily it’s not a complete tear:
Bad news for a potential first-round OL
Oklahoma tackle Orlando Brown (yes, son of Zeus Brown) hasn’t been lighting it up during workouts:
One NFL offensive lineman has his back, though:
LAMAR JACKSON IS A DAMN QUARTERBACK
C’mon, we’re still doing this?
This is not that hard: Lamar Jackson is a quarterback. Lamar Jackson is not a wide receiver.
At least some people get it:

A preview for Friday
The 2018 NFL Scouting Combine started Thursday with some of the off-field interview and workouts getting underway. But the real action will start the morning of Friday as the on-field drills begin.
The first group of players to participate on Day 1 will be running backs, offensive lineman, and special teams players. Some of the bigger names on the RB side who will work out include Penn State’s Saquon Barkley, LSU’s Derrius Guice, and Stanford’s Bryce Love. Barkley was already making headlines before his on-field workouts even began:
Mocking The Draft’s Dan Kadar likes Barkley going No. 2 overall behind quarterback Sam Darnold to the New York Giants:
Barkley may have grown up a New York Jets fan, but he seems to like the idea of playing with Odell Beckham Jr. In the past week the sentiment regarding this choice is that it may not be a quarterback. Bradley Chubb of North Carolina State would be a consideration, but they already have a lot of money tied up in the defensive line. New head coach Pat Shurmur likes to run the ball, and the Giants have little quality at running back. Barkley could be the centerpiece of Shurmur’s offense.
Here’s how to watch all of Friday’s action:
