No. 18 Kansas State vs. Texas final score: Wildcats blow out Longhorns, 83-57

Texas’ propensity to turn the ball over doomed them to their sixth conference loss of the season.

The No. 18 Kansas St. Wildcats had the Texas Longhorns doubled up, 38-19, at halftime and never looked back on their way to a 83-57 win at home. Neither team really outshot the other from the field, with the Wildcats finishing at 47.2 percent and the Longhorns at 41.3 percent. But the Longhorns had other issues: they found a lid on the rim from beyond the arc, shooting just 22.2 percent from downtown; they were outrebounded, 14 to eight, on the offensive glass; and they committed 17 turnovers.

The Wildcats got a big lift from Thomas Gipson off the bench, who led all scorers with 17 points. Omari Lawrence and Angel Rodriguez joined Gipson in double digits with 12 and 11 points. The Wildcats took much better care of the basketball than the Longhorns, with just seven turnovers.

Two Longhorns finished with double figures in points, as Sheldon McClellan knocked down 15 points alongside Jaylen Bond, who finished with 12 points.

The No. 18 Wildcats head to Norman to face the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday while the Longhorns head home to face the Texas Christian Horned Frogs.
