W&M on to CAA title game after 2OT game-winner

Mark Dolejs-USA TODAY SportsWilliam & Mary once again seemed doomed to heartbreak: a big Hofstra three had the No. 1 seed in the CAA Tournament down late in double OT with just a few ticks left. They gave the ball to Marcus Thornton, who had 37 points, and he was defended well. But he got the ball to Daniel Dixon:
Hofstra’s full-court heave hit the scoreboard, giving W&M the ball and the win. Of course, Tribe fans know their work isn’t done yet -- the team seemed on the verge of making the tourney for the first time last year, but blew a late lead and lost the championship game in overtime. We’re pulling for you, Tribe. We’re pulling for you.

Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY SportsNorth Florida is going to the NCAA Tournament. A standing-room only crowd watched DeMarcus Daniels set a career high and the Ospreys beat USC Upstate, 63-57, behind their roaring fans for the Atlantic Sun Championship.
Daniels’ 22 and Jalen Nesbitt’s 16 points led the Ospreys and got them to their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance in the program’s history. Even before this, North Florida’s Dallas Moore dropped 36 points in their semifinal win over Lipscomb to get the Osprey’s in the championship game.

North Florida hosted the Atlantic Sun championship game, and they did it in front of a raucous crowd and student section. That student section is led by freshman band member Stephen Putnam, who has become a celebrity for his preposterous dance routines.
UNF ended up beating USC-Upstate -- and so that means UNF is dancing, and that means more Stephen Dancing. We need those gyrations. Those arm swings. That unfortunate shirt lift that lets us see stomach.

Jesse Johnson-USA TODAY SportsD.J. Newbill didn’t have any plans besides pulling up from 30. (28? 27? Whatever.) And it worked, as the Nittany Lions won 79-76.

Jeff Blake-USA TODAY SportsCoastal Carolina blew away Winthrop 81-70 with a huge second-half surge to seize the Big South Tournament title, earning their second consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament.
It’s the first time the Chanticleers have gone to back-to-back NCAA Tournaments. It’s also the second straight year their celebration has come at the expense of the Eagles -- they beat Winthrop 76-61 in last year’s final. aWrren Gillis led the way with 22 points, and Coastal Carolina held Winthrop to just 37 percent shooting.

Jim Brown-USA TODAY SportsThe first half went by a blistering pace with points coming in bunches. Belmont got off to a hot start with 29 points in the first 10 minutes. They cooled off after that while the Racers made a furious rally, ending the half with a 15-5 run to take an eight-point lead into the locker room.
Belmont stormed back in the second half to take another lead, thanks in part to eight straight points from Evan Bradds. The game continued to move back and forth at a frenetic pace, with neither team pulling away and both sides throwing haymakers from the three-point line. Belmont finished with 15-of-38 shots from beyond the arc, while Murray State shot 11-of-28.

Jamie Rhodes-USA TODAY SportsMathiang hadn’t taken a shot since Feb. 28. He came wide open after Virginia trapped, and he buried the shot from the free throw line. Virginia threw the ensuing inbound pass out of bounds and Louisville held on for the win. It is Virginia’s first road loss of the season and just its second loss all year.

The end of Kansas-Oklahoma was bonkers. Down three with five seconds left, the Jayhawks ran the old Bryce Drew play. Frank Mason had a clean look at a three-pointer but was fouled. He made all three free throws to tie the game.
The Vine above? That’s what happened next. Oklahoma’s Jordan Woodard went the length of the floor to get to the rim, and star guard Buddy Hield tipped it in for the win. What a game.

Watch the dunk, but also watch the ref on the baseline:
That’s the hop of a ref who’s not allowed to say “oh gosh Dylan Ennis, I know you wanted a charge there, but it’s not a charge and you have made such a mistake oh man oh man.”

Rob Kinnan-USA TODAY SportsJust a day after his program was hammered by NCAA sanctions which included himself being being forced to vacate 108 wins from his record, Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim elected not to face the media following his team’s 71-57 loss to NC State.
Instead, Boeheim released an official statement and sent assistant coach Mike Hopkins to handle the postgame press conference duties.

Michigan State held a 11-point lead with under four minutes left against Indiana on Saturday afternoon in a game both teams had to have. Indiana would stage a come back to make things interesting, and the drama reached a new high when MSU wing Denzel Valentine fouled Indiana up two with just two seconds left. As you can see from the Vine above, Tom Izzo couldn’t believe it.
Fortunately for MSU, Yogi Ferrell would miss his second free throw so the Spartans were set to escape. All Michigan State really had to do was miss the second free throw with 0.5 seconds remaining and the game would have been over. When Melvin Clarke Jr. made the free throw, Izzo fell to his knees in disbelief.

Mark L. Baer-USA TODAY SportsButler led Providence by as many as 16 points in the second half when sophomore point guard Kris Dunn decided to take over. Dunn is terrorizing the No. 21 Bulldogs on both ends of the floor, and it was never more evident than on this play in the second half.
After two straight years of shoulder injuries, it’s great to see Dunn live up to the potential he showed on the recruiting trail. He could be a very rich man by the time the NBA draft rolls around.

We have not yet seen video of this Alex Olah warm-up dunk, but it seems to have been a doozy:
In all seriousness, it was probably a poorly attached shot clock more than a violent dunk, and it’s a good thing the problem got identified before that thing fell on someone’s head during the game. Alex Olah is just here for quality control.

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY SportsFlorida at No. 1 Kentucky (2 p.m. - CBS)
The final hurdle on Kentucky’s road to regular season perfection is a Florida team which gave them all they could handle last month, but which also has little to play for in this game outside of ruining the clean slate of a conference rival. The Gators are certainly up against it in Lexington, but at least they will “likely” have leading scorer Michael Frazier back. Frazier hasn’t played since suffering an ankle injury in the first meeting between the two teams back on Feb. 7.
