The Michigan Wolverines will be without starting safety Thomas Gordon for their season opener vs. Central Michigan, according to ESPN. Gordon has been sit down for an unspecified violation of team rules, and his absence means that the Wolverines will face the Chips without both of their starting safeties.

The Wolverines’ secondary is down two starters against a MAC team.
Thomas, a senior from Detroit, had 81 tackles and two interceptions last year.
“It is important that our 115 sons represent this university and program to the high standards we hold,” Michigan coach Brady Hoke said in a press release. “But at times, like in society, our kids make poor decisions, and when they do, it breaks your heart. With those choices come consequences. Thomas was not accountable to his teammates, and he has learned a valuable lesson from this situation.”
Josh Furman and Dymonte Thomas will probably get the nods as starters on Saturday. Furman is a redshirt junior who was probably going to fill in for Courtney Avery, who is missing the game due to injury. Thomas is a true freshman, but enrolled early and has gotten good reviews in camp from the coaching staff.
