Oklahoma eased to an opening weekend win over visiting Louisiana-Monroe, defeating the Warhawks by a margin of 34-0 in Norman.
ULM vs. Oklahoma 2013 final score: Sooners cruise to 34-0 victory against Warhawks
Oklahoma had an easy time of things in their opener, shutting out the Warhawks in a dominating win.
The Sooners struggled offensively out of the gate, waiting until the second quarter to start the scoring, but after a 12-yard touchdown pass from Trevor Knight to Jalen Saunders, the floodgates opened on the Warhawk defense. The Sooners scored 34 unanswered in the second and third quarters combined, including a three-touchdown third quarter.
Oklahoma’s defense was stifling, holding the Warhawks to under 200 total yards. The Sooners did not allow a single rusher to total 10 yards, even with eight ULM players receiving carries.
The Sooners had 429 total yards, including 305 on the ground. Trevor Knight led the way, but seven different Oklahoma rushers averaged at least five yards per carry.
Box Score Hero: Trevor Knight. The Sooner quarterback only completed 11 of 28 passes for 86 yards, but had three touchdowns through the air and ran 12 times for 112 yards.
Rankings Ramifications: So far, everyone above the No. 16 Sooners have taken care of business. It is doubtful that they’ll move ahead of the loser of the No. 5 Georgia vs. No. 8 Clemson game, but they could move above No. 12 LSU if they fall to No. 20 TCU.
But Did They Cover? Oklahoma was a 23-point favorite, so yes!
