Eastern Washington vs. Oregon State final score: No. 25 Beavers upset in Corvallis

Oregon State becomes the latest FBS school to fall to a lower division opponent in a shocker at home.

Vernon Adams was a one-man wrecking crew in Corvallis, leading the FCS Eastern Washington Eagles to an historic victory over the No. 25 Oregon State Beavers, winning 49-46. Oregon State joins Kansas State and UConn as high-profile teams to lose to lower-division opponents in the season's opening weekend.

Eastern Washington first took the lead early in the second quarter, when Adams completed a 24-yard touchdown pass to Ashton Clark. It was one of three touchdown passes for Adams in the quarter -- the other two going to Cooper Kupp.

Trailing 29-17 at the half, Oregon State scored two straight touchdowns to retake the lead at 32-29. From there, the two teams traded scores, with Vernon Adams eventually driving the Eagles down to the Beavers’ goal line, trailing 46-43 with under two minutes to go. On third and goal, Oregon State was called for pass interference in the end zone, allowing Eastern Washington a new set of downs with less than a minute left.

Adams took advantage of the opportunity, selling the play-action fake before rolling out and running into the end zone from three yards out to take the lead. The Eagles missed the extra point, allowing Oregon State a last chance to force overtime with a 52-yard field goal try. The kick went wide left as time expired, giving Eastern Washington the win.

Box Score Hero: Vernon Adams. The sophomore completed 23 of his 30 passes for 411 yards and four touchdowns, while rushing 16 times for 107 yards and two touchdowns.

Rankings Ramifications: Oregon State will clearly drop out of the Top 25, and likely the poll altogether.

But Did They Cover? Oregon State were 28-point favorites, so no.
