Boise State vs. Washington 2013 game recap: Huskies rout Broncos 38-6

Boise State traditionally performs well in season openers. That was not the case on Saturday against Washington.

The Washington Huskies opened their remodeled stadium in style, routing the No. 19 Boise State Broncos 38-6. Washington dominated the second half en route to the big season-opening win.

Keith Price and Bishop Sankey led the way for Washington as the Husky offense exploded for 28 points in the second half. Following a rough season last year, Price was in elite form, completing 23-of-31 passes for 324 yards and two touchdowns. Washington played without tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins, but it didn't seem to matter as Price spread the ball around. Jaydon Mickens led the way with nine catches for 109 yards while Kasen Williams caught three passes for 68 yards and a touchdown.

Sankey paced the Huskies on the ground, rushing for 161 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries. The Broncos struggled to get Washington off the field as the Huskies racked up 32 first downs and converted 10-of-14 third-down conversions.

For the Broncos, it was their second straight season-opening loss. Boise State got off to a slow start offensively, althougth it trailed just 10-3 at halftime. The Broncos cut the lead to 10-6 with a field goal to start the third quarter, but it was all downhill from there. The Huskies scored 28 unanswered points to close the game.

The biggest disparity between the two offenses came in the passing game. Boise State averaged just 3.9 yards per attempt on 45 passing attempts while Washington averaged 10.5 yards per attempt on its 31 throws.

Boise State will return home and face Tennessee-Martin next week. The Huskies will attempt to improve to 2-0 when they go on the road to face Illinois.
