BCS National Championship: The taunting penalty that might cost Florida State the title

Devonta Freeman’s decision to taunt Auburn’s sideline may just end up being deadly for the Seminoles.

If Florida State ends up losing the BCS National Championship to Auburn, the Seminoles will have to look back on a foolish (and controversial) taunting penalty late in the fourth quarter.

With the Seminoles down, 21-13, Chad Abram hauled in a swing pass from Jameis Winston. Abram tiptoed down the sideline and dove into the end zone, cutting the deficit to 21-19 with just 10:55 left on the clock. With momentum on their side, it appeared FSU would attempt the two-point conversion to tie the game up.

Then running back Devonta Freeman was flagged for taunting. At first glance it appeared he was just pointing at Auburn's sideline after the touchdown, but a closer look gives the impression he was mimicking guns with his hands and shooting them at the Tigers' direction.

Here is some video of the taunting penalty, which does make it look like Freeman was shooting.

Either way, this is sure to be talked about for a long time whether or not Florida State wins. If they lose, it may just be the call that changed everything.
