Mike Leach is, um, an eccentric man. The current Washington State and former Texas Tech coach can’t enter any social interaction without immediately submerging things in utter weirdness, like a two-minute rant on wedding advice in which he urged a reporter to elope. Or a brief dissertation on “the goths.” Or an honest and frank dismissal of candy corn (and fruitcake) out of hand.
Mike Leach even makes eating a banana incredibly weird
Look at this beautiful weirdo.

Ahead of Saturday night’s Apple Cup, the greatest and weirdest rivalry in college football, here’s the latest exhibit in Leach making everything and everyone around him supremely awkward with an assist from an unruly banana:

The banana bite nearly reaches its goal before Leach fumbles the mess down his front, but he saves the thing at the last minute and manages to enjoy his last gobbet of banana. Good catch, coach.
A couple items: Leach can’t even do awkward without making it SUPERLATIVELY awkward. We’ve all been here, but we’ve probably all pulled this stupid maneuver off with three times the grace that Leach does. Beneath that, please re-watch the clip and note Washington head coach Chris Petersen’s mortified response as his elder to the east struggles to maintain banana integrity before finally succeeding in eating it. Petersen straight turns away in horror.
Does Leach wipe his hand off on the grass? He most definitely wipes his hand off on the grass.
