With the first ever Early Signing Period now behind us, college programs are now able to evaluate their 2018 recruiting classes and finalize to whom their remaining scholarships should be awarded. Several of those coveted spots will be held for high school players competing in the 2018 Under Armour All-America Game.

This marks the 11th annual contest between some of the best college football prospects in the country.

With the new Early Signing Period coming ahead of the All-America games, some players have announced their decision to wait until the traditional National Signing Day in February to put pen to paper on their National Letter of Intent, while others may have waited to sign until they saw how some classes filled out at their top choices.
Of the 108 players selected for the 11th edition of the annual contest, 22 are uncommitted, 12 are committed but unsigned, and 74 have already signed and sent in their National Letters of Intent.
The five-stars of this year’s event include QB Justin Fields, Georgia signee; DE Eyabi Anoma, Alabama signee; DE K.J. Henry, Clemson signee; WR Terrace Marshall, LSU signee; WR Justin Shorter, Penn State signee; S BJ Foster, Texas signee; WR Devon Williams, predicted to Oregon; DE Brenton Cox, Georgia signee; and RB Ricky Slade, Penn State signee.
SB Nation’s Bud Elliott was in the media room this week as the players made their way through the first round of practices with many incoming freshmen giving their predictions for how some of the uncommitted might land.
Over in the Big Ten, there’s been some steep competition for some of the top defensive ends from the 2018 class, including Tyreke Smith and Jayson Oweh, who have been predicted to pick both Ohio State and Penn State. One of Penn State’s recent signees, running back Ricky Slade, said that he expects both Smith and Oweh to choose the Nittany Lions over the Buckeyes. That’d be quite the coup -- Urban Meyer & Co. already lost out on Emory Jones (to Florida), Brenton Cox (to Georgia), Jackson Carman (to Clemson), and Jaiden Woodbey (to Florida State).
With so many coaching changes over the past few weeks, many programs were left scrambling ahead of the Early Signing Period — not only to fill their vacant coaching positions, but to also get out and sell the new staff to recruits. The Under Armour All-America game will allow some of these new coaches a chance to evaluate the talent they’ve already extended scholarships to, and to assess any additional players they might want to add to their rosters.
