The tight end position is notoriously thin in fantasy football. Unless you’re holding one of the aces, it’s tough to get real, consistent contributions each week. But recently, the tight end has come back into vogue with a lot of offenses, and the picture in noticeably more-full when it comes to finding gems who can help you win the league. So what about Week 2 of this season?
Fantasy Football Week 2 Tight End Projections: Jason Witten, Dustin Keller Are Hot
Week 2 of fantasy football is drawing near, it’s time to project the Top 25 fantasy tight ends.
SB Nation’s partner, numberFire.com, asked their giant computer-brain to crunch the numbers and to spit out some player projections for the upcoming week. They have the massive database of numbers, and the algorithms to break it all down, providing you with a statistical projection for Week 2.
It seems there's always one name at the top of the fantasy football tight end projections every week, unless he's injured, and that's Antonio Gates. No surprise, he has the top spot in this week's projections.
A couple of TEs designated as "hot" off their week one performances are Jason Witten and Dustin Keller. Coincidentally, they played each other last week so those performances both came in the same game. Wiiten is always a killer for the Cowboys, and Keller is one of those guys who is flirting with elite fantasy status for tight ends.
A somewhat forgotten veteran is also "hot" and that's Kellen Winslow. Once thought of as among the elite in talent, his numbers haven't matched up in recent years. But last week, he had six catches for 66 yards and was targeted eight times, so we may be seeing a resurgence.
Keep an eye on former Patriot Ben Watson in Cleveland. Last year with the Browns, he had a lot of yards, but not a lot of touchdowns. He found the endzone in Week 1, and Colt McCoy is targeting him. Jermaine Gresham for the Bengals is also a player who had success in Week 1, leading his team in receptions and grabbing a touchdown. The Bengals receivers are a weak option right now, at least until A.J. Green gets going, so Gresham may see plenty of passes.
* Fantasy Points Projections are based on the Yahoo! and ESPN default scoring settings. Quarterbacks are scored with 1 point for every 25 passing yards, and 4 points for every touchdown. For running backs, wide receivers, and tight ends, they are scored with 1 point for every 10 total yards, and 6 points for every touchdown. This is a non-PPR projection.
