The third round of the 2013 Masters is in full swing and Tim Clark is one of a few players taking advantage of ideal course conditions.
2013 Masters leaderboard: Phil Mickelson struggling, Tim Clark surging
Despite beginning the day 2-over, Tim Clark is making a run up the leaderboard.
Clark, who started the day 2-over, shot out of the gate with birdies at five of his first seven holes. He finished the front nine in 31, moving him to 3-under overall. He’s ran into some issues early on the back nine, but managed to avoid a major setback. Clark appeared to be on his way to a bogey at No. 10, but he sank a long putt to save par. Clark made his sixth birdie of the day at the par-5 13th, moving him to 4-under overall and a tie for fourth place.
Clark’s fast start has proved low scores are attainable. While anything at even-par or better was a good score on Friday, players may need to go low on Saturday if they are going to stay in the mix.
While Clark and a few others are in the red on Saturday, Phil Mickelson has gone the opposite direction. Mickelson is 5-over on the day, dropping him to 8-over for the tournament. Mickelson ran into trouble on Amen Corner as he found the water hazard on No. 11, No. 12 and No. 13. Mickelson double-bogeyed the 11th and 12th while escaping with a par on No. 13.
Matt Kuchar dropped off the top half of the leaderboard with a 3-over 75 on Friday, but he’s working his way back into contention. Kuchar recorded back-to-back birdies at No. 2 and No. 3 to move to 3-under overall. He’s tied with Clark and others for seventh place with 14 holes still to play on Saturday.
