Tianlang Guan’s amazing week at the 2013 Masters came down to earth a bit during the third round as the 14-year-old posted a birdie-less round of 77 on Saturday. He’s now at 9-over for the tournament. For Guan, however, just playing on the weekend at his age should be the real accomplishment. It’s unsurprising to see him drop to the bottom of the leaderboard.

The 14-year-old struggled on his third tour through Augusta National, but he’s already locked up low amateur honors.
Guan bogeyed five of the tougher holes at Augusta, and unlike the past two days, he could not come back with birdies to answer and hover around even-par. He had no delusions about contending on the weekend, and was the longest shot in the field, but the course has been receptive to lower scores on Saturday. It’s hard to critique any round by the eighth-grade amateur, and the high number didn’t come before the weekend, so he was able to make history on his first trip to Augusta.
No matter what he shoots this weekend, he’ll take home the silver medal for low amateur in the field. He’s not only the youngest player to ever make the weekend, but he’s also the only amateur this year to get past the cut (even if it took a little sweating on Friday night as the 10-shot rule moved things around). It’s likely Guan will be in the first pairing off the course on Sunday, as only Keegan Bradley currently has a worse score. Bradley is 10-over, one worse than Guan, through his first 14 holes.
