Tiger Woods pulled out of the WGC Bridgestone on Sunday after suffering a back injury. Woods said he sustained the injury on the second hole, but officially withdrew from the tournament on the ninth hole following his drive. He was 3-over on the day and 4-over for the tournament.

Woods was in noticeable pain as he left the golf course.

Woods had back surgery on March 31 and has struggled since returning. He’s played only nine rounds of competitive golf following the surgery, and just two of them have been under par. His decision to pull out of the Bridgestone capped a frustrating day that saw him bogey the sixth hole and double-bogey the seventh.

He simply didn’t look right on the course:

Woods missed The Masters and U.S. Open because of the back injury and finished No. 69 in the field at the British Open. The final major of the season, the PGA Championship, is next week. If Woods misses that tournament, it will be the first time in his career he’s missed three of the four majors in one year.

Woods’ back issues go back to 2010, when he withdrew from the final round of the The Players Championship with a bulging disk. He has been experiencing pain in his lower back since 2012.
