Texas Rangers starting pitcher Tommy Hunter has been out since spring training due to a strained groin. However, he threw his first bullpen session a couple weeks ago, he threw in an extended-spring game over the weekend, and now, after throwing a bullpen, he's been cleared to begin a minor-league rehab assignment. Writes Jeff Wilson:
Tommy Hunter Ready For Rehab After Injury
Tommy Hunter headed to Frisco for three- to four-inning start Wednesday. He threw a bullpen session this morning in Arizona.
Hunter will presumably make a few minor league starts before climbing his way back to the bigs. At this point, it appears he’s going to return in May.
The big question for the Rangers is: who gets booted from the rotation to make room? C.J. Wilson has been effective. Alexi Ogando has been effective. Matt Harrison and Derek Holland have mostly been effective, and while the worst of the group has been Colby Lewis, he was also the best just last season. The pressure's on those latter three to save their jobs.
