Tommy Hunter Re-Injures Groin In Rehab Appearance

Out since Spring Training with a groin injury, it looked like Texas Rangers starter Tommy Hunter was making real progress. Just a little while ago he began a rehab assignment, and on Monday he made his second rehab appearance, with an eye toward returning to the bigs later this month. But courtesy of Anthony Andro, we find out that things aren't going so hot:

A solid rehab start by the Rangers Tommy Hunter for Triple A Round Rock didn’t end so well. Hunter tweaked his right groin on the last pitch he threw. He’s heading back to Arlington to have it looked at.

There’s no word on the severity, and this may well be something minor. But it’s still a setback, and Hunter will have to take it easy for at least the next little while before pushing things again.

And so the Rangers will continue leaning on the starters they've got. C.J. Wilson and Alexi Ogando have been effective, but Ogando's been bothered by a blister, and behind them, the rotation's shown some cracks. The Rangers could certainly use a healthy Hunter, but a healthy Hunter they do not have and still won't for some time.
