Any hope the Miami Heat had of rebounding from Thursday night’s meltdown went out the window after a sluggish first quarter saw the San Antonio Spurs take an early 24-point lead. The Heat put up a fight in the second, narrowing the deficit to 12 at the half before the Spurs pulled away and breezed to a 30-point win, 125-95.
Heat Vs. Spurs Final Score: Miami Falls Flat In 125-95 Loss
The Heat were punchless for much of the night, relying on the big three — LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh — to shoulder the scoring load. But with little defense to speak of, the Spurs kept stretching the lead, using a balanced scoring effort to cruise down the stretch.
Eight Spurs were in double-figures, led by Manu Ginobili’s 20 points. Matt Bonner and Gary Neal had 18 and 16 points respectively, with Tony Parker adding 15 points in a starting role. Tim Duncan and Richard Jefferson finished with 11 points, George Hill had 11 more off the bench and DeJuan Blair added 10 more. It was a complete team effort from the Spurs, who spread the ball around with clinical efficiency.
For the Heat, the three-man show went on as LeBron James led all scorers with 26 points, adding eight rebounds and seven assists. Dwyane Wade had 19 points and Chris Bosh finished with had 17 points and 14 rebounds. Mike Miller was also in double-figures with 12 points off the bench. Mike Bibby finished with more assists than points, scoring four and dishing out five assists.
The Heat fell to 43-19 with the loss, their third in as many games. After Thursday’s meltdown and Friday’s lackluster effort, Miami will likely face plenty of questions about the state of the team before returning to the court on Sunday against the Chicago Bulls. The Spurs improved to 51-11 with the convincing win.
