Carmelo Anthony scored 20 points and Amare Stoudemire added 16 while leading the Knicks to a 61-53 halftime lead over the Memphis Grizzlies. The Knicks are shooting 60% from the field and 61% from the three-point range. The only reason the game is this close is due to Memphis proficiency at forcing turnovers and turning them into points. The Knicks committed 10 turnovers in the first half which led to 18 points for the Grizzlies.
Knicks Vs. Grizzlies Score: Carmelo Anthony Scores 20, New York Leads 61-53 At Half
The real story from the first half is Stoudemire and Anthony combining to go 16-25 from the floor for 36 points, and seven assists. As a team, New York has recorded 17 assists in the first half which is a testament to how free-flowing their offense is right now. They are sharing the ball and knocking down opportunities from all over the floor.
Memphis refuses to go away and is playing an aggressive style of defense jumping into passing lanes. The problem was when they weren’t forcing a turnover they were instead giving up baskets to the Knicks. The before mentioned points of turnovers combined with going a perfect 14-14 from the free throw line in the first half has the Grizzlies at least within striking distance. Tony Allen leads Memphis with 12 points while Marc Gasol is also in double figures with 10. Mike Conley has nine points and four steals thus far in the game.
So far it is Stoudemire winning the battle between himself and Zach Randolph. The Grizzlies power forward has but six points and three turnovers in the first half.
