Memphis Grizzlies center Marc Gasol does not like sitting out. Back in March, he was declared "out indefinitely" after an abdominal tear and returned to Memphis' starting lineup five days after he got hurt, only missing two games. Now, after a Grade 2 MCL sprain, he is again out indefinitely. This time it will be longer than five days, but he again plans to come back as soon as possible, via Clay Bailey of the Associated Press:

''They try to give me a week - three, four, six,'' Gasol said when asked of the recovery time Monday night. ''I don't care what number they say, I told them as soon as I can put my foot down on the floor and I can walk, I'm going to rush it and speed the process.''

Once he heard no surgery was required, Gasol was ready for the trainers to tape up he knee, put on a brace and let him return to the court. But medical personnel told him the MCL sprain was more serious than he was considering.
''They wouldn't listen to me,'' Gasol said.

Gasol will be on crutches for three to four weeks, per Bailey, so it will be a little while before he can get up to speed for a return to the court. It sounds like the Grizzlies will have to protect him from himself.
Memphis lost to the Houston Rockets 93-86 in its first game without Gasol on Monday night. Kosta Koufos started in his place at center and recorded eight points, 13 rebounds, two assists and two blocks. Gasol is averaging 16 points, 7.1 rebounds and 4.3 assists on the season.
