Kawhi Leonard has elected to forgo his final two years at San Diego State and enter the 2011 NBA Draft. On Thursday, Leonard announced his decision, telling reporters he would not be back and planned on hiring an agent. With Leonard gone, along with three other departing starters, the Aztecs have a major rebuilding effort ahead of them just weeks removed from a run to the Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA Tournament.
Kawhi Leonard Declares For 2011 NBA Draft, Will Hire An Agent
Leonard did his homework and, with the blessing of head coach Steve Fisher, came to the conclusion that the NBA Draft was his best option.
“We talked about where we thought I would be selected in the draft,” Leonard said in a statement. “Coach Fisher gave me great advice and helped me with my decision that I should move forward with the process. This is very exciting. I have been preparing my whole life to play in the NBA and now I will have that chance.”
Leonard is a top-10 pick in our first 2011 NBA mock draft, heading to the Milwaukee Bucks at No. 9. His draft stock has been difficult to nail-down, but it appears he’s securely in the first round and may be a lottery pick.
