Kawhi Leonard has not made his plans regarding the 2011 NBA Draft official, but at least one teammate thinks it is all but inevitable that he will forego the final two years of his college eligibility and put his name on the list. Malcolm Thomas told the San Diego Union Tribune that Leonard is a “for-sure” entry into the draft.
Kawhi Leonard Likely To Declare For 2011 NBA Draft, Teammate Says
Leonard has yet to declare for the NBA draft as an underclassman or formally hire an agent that would negate his remaining two seasons of collegiate eligibility, but Thomas considers both a mere formality. "I think he's leaving," Thomas said, "for sure."
Leonard average 15.5 points and 10.6 rebounds for San Diego State last season, and is currently listed to go in the No. 13 slot in Draft Express’ latest NBA Mock Draft. Thomas, meanwhile, is not even listed in the 2011 Mock Draft.
San Diego State’s season ended with a Sweet 16 loss to UConn. The lost ended the team’s most successful run in a long time, so it would be hard for Leonard to top that if he were to return to school. He likely projects as a small forward in the NBA.
