Saturday’s Auburn-Georgia game has evolved into an SEC shootout. The No. 2 Tigers lead at home, but the Bulldogs are giving the Auburn defense a run for its money.
Auburn Vs. Georgia: Onside Kick Pays Off For Tigers; Auburn Leads, 35-28
Auburn provided a wild opening to the second half, as kicker Wes Byrum tapped an onside kick. He recovered his own kick -- replays showed that the ball may not have traveled the necessary 10 yards, but there was unsufficient evidence to overrule the call on the field, and the Tigers took the ball.
On the ensuing possession, Auburn kept the ball on the ground without a single pass attempt, as Cam Newton, Terrell Zachary, Michael Dyer, and Onterio McCalebb each contributed to a drive that ended in a touchdown. After Georgia answered with a touchdown of its own, McCalebb rushed for another touchdown -- his third of the day -- to cap off an 81-yard drive.
With just over three minute remaining in the third quarter, Auburn leads, 35-28. Both offenses are looking explosive, Auburn is looking to stay undefeated, and Georgia looking to improve to 6-5 after a rough start to their season.
