In the final minute of Saturday’s game, when a 49-31 Auburn win was all but decided, things got ugly between the No. 2 Tigers and the SEC rival Bulldogs. Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray sustained a hard hit that took him out of the game. While Murray didn’t seem to suffer a serious injury, he left the game.
Auburn Vs. Georgia: Punches Thrown In Final Seconds Lead To Ejections
Then the fireworks went off. Auburn’s Nick Fairley, who was responsible for the hit, was targeted by Georgia’s line on the ensuing play. Fairley hit the ground and something of a brawl ensued, with Auburn defensive end Michael Goggins throwing a punch. Goggins was ejected, and two plays later, a second Tiger was ejected for throwing a punch. Under NCAA rules, these players will not be able to play in the first half of next week’s game.
Regardless, Auburn prevailed, 49-31, and quarterback Cam Newton once again played a major role:
The imposing 6-foot-6, 250-pound quarterback responded with 151 yards and two touchdowns on the ground while shaking off an early interception and compiling 148 yards and two scores through the air on 12-of-15 throws.
No. 2 Auburn remains undefeated, while Georgia falls to 5-6 on the year.
