Gunner Kiel’s Dad On Notre Dame Switch: ‘The Burden Is Off His Shoulders’

Notre Dame Fighting Irish enrollee Gunner Kiel made the right decision in leaving the LSU Tigers and Indiana Hoosiers at various altars. We don't have to like that, but it's true. Look at the way his family is talking about his decision to stay home instead of playing in Baton Rouge.

Also, in reference to the popular theory from the LSU side of the equation that it all came down to a teary plea from his mother:

“There was that rumor out there that Mom had an emotional moment with him, that she started bawling and said, ‘No, you can’t go,’ and that’s by far not the truth,” [father] Kip Kiel said. “Both of us really wanted him to make his own decision.”
It was not, Kip Kiel insists sincerely, Mom and Dad committing their son to Notre Dame. How much credence you give that probably depends on what team you cheer for on Saturdays.

As far as burdens go, being shrieked at by Brian Kelly sounds like a whole ‘nother one, but for the time being let’s all emit positive vibes about a young man finding what he believes to be his place.
