As we mentioned earlier this week, tight end isn’t always the most glamorous position. But there are a few names here that you’ll remember -- and one that has a bit of an echo to it. All of these players had an impact on their team’s fortunes that goes beyond that originally associated with their position.

This poll will stay open all weekend, with the full list of winners revealed Monday morning.

Dallas Clark, Iowa Hawkeyes
John Mackey Award winner. Piled up 1,281 yards and eight touchdowns on 81 receptions in what amounted to two seasons as a tight end.

Heath Miller, Virginia Cavaliers
John Mackey Award winner and All-American in 2004. Caught 144 passes for 1,703 yards and 20 touchdowns. First unanimous All-American tight end in ACC history.

Kellen Winslow, Missouri Tigers
Caught 71 passes in his career for 1,089 yards and 10 touchdowns. Had 132 yards against Nebraska in 1978.

Pete Mitchell, Boston College Eagles
Had 2,388 yards on 190 receptions and 20 touchdowns for Boston College, leading to his being a consensus All-American in 1994.

Previously inducted TE: Ozzie Newsome, Alabama.

The SB Nation College Football Hall of Fame is a summer project involving all of the network’s excellent college football blogs. Each community could nominate five of its own for inclusion, with 10 of those nominees being inducted by our selection committee, which included reps from most FBS conferences. The remaining 10 will be chosen by public vote Wednesday and Thursday.
