Texas’ Derrick Johnson Inducted Into SB Nation College Football Hall Of Fame

In a close vote, Derrick Johnson of Texas makes the SB Nation College Football Hall of Fame.

Not every vote was a runaway, and the fan vote on linebacker proved to be one of the harder-fought (at least in terms of margin) in the inaugural poll for linebacker in the SB Nation College Football Hall of Fame. In the end, it was Texas’ Derrick Johnson who cross the finish line with more votes than anyone else.

Here’s some of what one of our two fine blogs focused on Texas had to say about Johnson:

1st Team All Big 12: 2002, 2003, 2004. Won 2004 Nagurksi, and Butkus Awards. Consensus 1st Team All-American, 2003, 2004 Big 12 DPOY. Finished career with 69 TFL (most in Texas history). #3 tackler at Texas all-time. All-time leader for LB interceptions and forced fumbles.

As we mentioned, Johnson had one of the closer races on the board, winning 46 percent of the vote in our fan poll to make the Hall. He joins Mike Singletary of Baylor as linebackers in our Hall.

The SB Nation College Football Hall of Fame is a summer project involving all of the network’s excellent college football blogs. Each community could nominate five of its own for inclusion, with 10 of those nominees being inducted by our selection committee, which included reps from most FBS conferences. The remaining 10 were chosen by public vote.
