Wyoming might be invisible to the BCS, but the Cowboys clearly aren’t going to be invisible in the SB Nation College Football Hall of Fame. Taking out several higher-profile names on the fan ballot, Marcus Harris is now one of two wideouts in the inaugural class.
Wyoming’s Marcus Harris Inducted Into SB Nation College Football Hall Of Fame
The midmajors have another wide receiver in the SB Nation College Football Hall of Fame: Marcus Harris.
Our Wyoming blog, Cowboy Altitude, put all its eggs in one basket -- and it paid off.
As a senior in 1996 Harris helped lead the Cowboys a 10-2 record and #22 ranking. Wyoming faced BYU in the WAC Championship game but lost 28-25. The Pokes were left out of a bowl game despite their high powered offense and Top 25 ranking. That season Harris set a NCAA record for 4,518 career receiving yards and led the nation with 1,650 receiving yards (fourth highest in history). He was named the winner of the Biletkenoff Trophy which is given to the top receiver, and was a consensus All-American, earned WAC 1st Team and WAC co-offensive player of the Year. Harris is one of only two Wyoming Cowboys to earn All-American honors twice.
Harris received 53 percent of the vote in our fan poll. He joins another midmajor player, Randy Moss of Marshall, as a wide receiver in the Hall.
The SB Nation College Football Hall of Fame is a summer project involving all of the network’s excellent college football blogs. Each community could nominate five of its own for inclusion, with 10 of those nominees being inducted by our selection committee, which included reps from most FBS conferences. The remaining 10 were chosen by public vote.
