Orton and Lloyd connected for a one-yard touchdown to narrow the 49ers’ lead to 24-16 late in the fourth quarter in London. It’s been another good day through the air for Orton, who has 342 passing yards, but part of that is thank to the Broncos’ defense being as porous as usual — conceding 21 fourth quarter points was rather inauspicious — and forcing Orton to air it out.

Troy Smith, who scored on a one-yard run to tie the game up at 10 earlier in the fourth quarter, found Michael Crabtree for a 28-yard scoring strike, securing San Francisco’s first lead since going up 3-0 in the first half.

Smith found Walker, a backup tight end, twice for 65 yards trailing 10-3, which set the 49ers up at the one-yard line of Denver. Smith then capped off the drive with a one-yard touchdown run, tying the game. Smith’s touchdown negates a one-yard touchdown from Broncos backup quarterback Tim Tebow earlier in the third quarter.

Troy Smith, making his first start at quarterback for the 49ers, has completed four of six passes early in the contest, gaining 37 yards in the process. Frank Gore has added 29 rushing yards on seven carries, and Joe Nedney knocked in a 34-yard field goal to cap off a 13-play, 65-yard drive that took 7:31 to complete.
