The Cincinnati Bengals opened up a 7-0 lead on the Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field when Carson Palmer found eligible tackle Andrew Whitworth for a one-yard touchdown pass. That lead lasted until the second quarter, when things got a little out of hand for Cincinnati.
NFL Week 14 Scores And Results: Steelers Defense Dominant In 23-7 Win Over Bengals
Palmer, who has made it a specialty of his to throw pick-sixes - interceptions returned by the opposition for touchdowns, for those of you in the dark - and continued that trend on Sunday. Troy Polamalu intercepted a Palmer throw and returned it 45 yards for a score to tie the game at seven, and linebacker Lamarr Woodley took a pick back 14 yards for a score in the fourth quarter to put the game on ice for Pittsburgh. Shaun Suisham added three field goals to Pittsburgh’s two defensive scores in their 23-7 victory.
Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers offense were not particularly effective, but they didn’t have to be. Roethlisberger threw for 258 yards on a bad foot and with a fairly gnarly looking bandage on his surgically-repaired nose. Rashard Mendenhall rushed for 66 yards on 18 carries, but it was Palmer’s three interceptions that was the big story in this contest.
The AFC North-leading Steelers improve to 10-3, while the hapless Bengals fall to 2-11. Visit Behind the Steel Curtain and Cincy Jungle for more on this game.
