The Green Bay Packers have been missing starting QB Aaron Rodgers for most of the last two weeks after he suffered a concussion against the Detroit Lions. The Packers lost that game, and the following game to the New England Patriots. Now that Rodgers has been cleared to return, the Packers can breathe a sigh of relief.
Aaron Rodgers Cleared After Injury; Packers Pleased To See His Return
Matt Flynn did well for a young quarterback in the Lions and Patriots game throwing for four touchdowns and three interceptions. It wasn't a great performance but given where he is in his career I think you have to be content with it. Rodgers' last four games saw him with eight touchdowns and just one interception so, clearly, the Packers want and need him back.
SB Nation’s Acme Packing Company has a nice break down of the statistical differences between Rodgers and Flynn and the result is obvious -- Packers are much better with Rodgers.
His stats are better in the touchdown and turnover categories, but what really caught my eye was that on average, each pass attempt was good for an extra three yards. He was averaging almost a 1st down per attempt with no forced turnovers. That makes the Packers offense a whole lot better.
So the Packers will welcome him back, assuming he will indeed play. They've got their biggest game of the year on Sunday against the Giants with wildcard implications.
