In need of a win and a Green Bay Packers loss to sneak into the NFL playoffs after two ugly losses, the New York Giants have taken an early 3-0 lead over the Washington Redskins - but lost key offensive lineman Rich Seubert in the process.
Giants Vs. Redskins: Giants Take 3-0 Lead, Lose Rich Seubert
Seubert dislocated his kneecap on the Giants’ scoring drive, and was carted off the field. Needless to say, it’s unlikely he’ll be returning to this contest.
The Giants drove 78 yards in 11 plays for the score, with a 27-yard run from Brandon Jacobs providing the key play. He might have scored on that jaunt, but Kevin Barnes was just able to trip him up from behind, saving a touchdown for the Redskins. The Giants had a further 41 rushing yards on the drive, and Eli Manning completed three passes for 24 yards.
New York, which sits at 9-6 on the season, must win this game to remain alive for the NFC playoffs. They won’t make it if the Packers defeat the Chicago Bears, who have nothing to gain now that Atlanta has secured home-field advantage. Should both the Packers and Giants lose, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will become the sixth and final seed in the NFC playoffs.
