Giants Vs. Redskins: Rex Grossman, Fred Davis Cut Into Giants Lead

The Washington Redskins - currently the rooting interest of every Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan on the planet - have cut the New York Giants’ lead to 10-7 at halftime thanks to a one-yard touchdown pass from Rex Grossman to backup tight end Fred Davis.

Grossman made four big plays in the passing game on Washington’s 7-play, 80-yard scoring drive. First, he hit Chris Cooley for 16 yards. Then he found Davis for a 19-yard gain to get the ball into Giants territory. Santana Moss chipped in an 18-yard reception, and then Keiland Williams took a beautifully-executed screen pass 23 yards to get the ball down to New York’s four-yard line. Two plays later, Grossman hit Davis for the score.

A Washington win would go a long way toward helping the Buccaneers secure an NFL playoff berth. As it stands right now, the Bucs need losses from New York and Green Bay to get in. The Giants still lead 10-7 at halftime, while the Packers trail the visiting Chicago Bears 3-0 at halftime in Lambeau Field. The Giants, meanwhile, need a win and a Green Bay loss to secure their own playoff berth.

Big second halves coming up - not just for the teams involved, but for the fine folks of Tampa Bay, as well.
