The Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions will kick off the 2011 Thanksgiving day football schedule when they meet in Detroit for the first time this season. The unbeaten Packers are favored but there are plenty of folks who have predicted Detroit's the first team to knock them off.
Packers Vs. Lions: Detroit Was Built For This Game
You need a team with a defensive line that can rough up Aaron Rodgers without a lot of help while keeping plenty of players in coverage because Rodgers will eventually make you pay. You also need a team with an explosive offense that can match the Packers when it comes to scoring points.
If that sounds familiar to the Packers, it should. The Lions were constructed to beat the Packers. That’s what their team is built to do. So this is, clearly, the biggest game of the year for them (and Green Bay).
I read over at SB Nation’s Acme Packing Company that Packers fans aren’t that confident about this game and I don’t think they should be. Green Bay is obviously the better team -- we know that after seeing the 10-0 start -- but the Detroit home crowd will be a legitimate advantage and the Lions will be fired up for the game of the year.
This might be the best shot of someone actually beating the Packers this year, which is why it’s so anticipated.
The game kicks off at 12:30 p.m. (ET). Check out our Packers blog, Acme Packing Company, for more on the Packers and head on over to Pride of Detroit for more on the Lions. Here’s the entire Thanksgiving day football schedule and all the NFL odds and lines for the Week 12 games.
