Nnamdi Asomugha In Free Agency: Eagles, Cowboys Or Ravens?

CB Nnamdi Asomugha will be one of the most sought after free agents in recent memory. We're entering a territory with him we rarely see -- arguably the best cornerback in the game entering unrestricted free agency. All it will take to get him is money, which we don't see very often with players of his caliber.

So whoever is looking to sign him, will need to be deep in the pockets. The going rate could be as high as a whopping $18 million per year. That seems like a lot -- and it is -- but it’s the right price for the first or second best cornerback in the NFL.

Peter King of SI.com has been looking at the teams that could be in the Asomugha market and identifies his three favorites as the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys and Baltimore Ravens. We're not sure if Asomugha would be interested in them but I'd throw the Houston Texans in there as well.

The Eagles could pair him with CB Asante Samuel to make one of the top defensie back groups in the NFL. (DeSean Jackson wants him in Philly.) The Cowboys were often linked to CB Prince Amukamara in the NFL draft so we think they would like a top cornerback. The Ravens would presumably lock up their own guys first but a shutdown cornerback could take their defense to scary levels.

And then there’s the Texans. Houston seems to make a ton of sense considering the fact that they’re on the verge of making the playoffs, their offense is top tier and what hurt them the most in 2010 was pass coverage issues.

It’s hard to predict things like this because the money will be so large. First, though, we need free agency, which isn’t guaranteed right now because of the NFL lockout.
