Nnamdi Asomugha has officially joined the Philadelphia Eagles after talks about the All-Pro cornerback had for days focused on the New York Jets and Dallas Cowboys. The Eagles alerted reporters to the news just shy of 6:30 p.m. ET on Friday.
Nnamdi Asomugha Deal With Eagles Official
Asomugha, who has made the last four Pro Bowls as a member of the Oakland Raiders, drew heavy interests from a number of teams in free agency, including the San Francisco 49ers. The Eagles had acquired cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie in a trade sending quarterback Kevin Kolb to the Arizona Cardinals, which added to the surprise of the Asomugha play.
On Friday, most Asomugha attention focused on the Jets and Cowboys, two teams who like the Eagles provide the championship potential Asomugha lacked in Oakland. Just before news of the Eagles’ victory broke, the Jets and then Cowboys were ruled out of contention by NFL reporters. Thanks to Philadelphia, the mystery was quickly resolved.
