Nnamdi Asomugha Addition Makes Asante Samuel Expendable For Philadelphia Eagles

With the surprise addition of Nnamdi Asomugha on Friday evening, the Philadelphia Eagles are saddled with a nice problem to have. One one side of the field, the Eagles have Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, acquired when Kevin Kolb was dealt to the Arizona Cardinals. On the other side, Philadelphia now has Asomugha, a shutdown corner whose skills are second-to-none. But there's a third corner, and he may be the expendable piece in the puzzle.

Asante Samuel suddenly finds himself as the odd-man-out in Philadelphia, and may be traded sooner rather than later. The Eagles find themselves in the driver's seat after pulling the wool over the media's eyes and coming out of left field to secure Asomugha. With a large amount of money tied to Samuel and two other freshly-signed corners, Philadelphia has to make a decision on Samuel.

There's still a need for cornerbacks throughout the NFL, and a few of the teams who lost out on the Asomugha sweepstakes may be lining up for Samuel. The Arizona Cardinals, who just traded Rodgers-Cromartie away to the Eagles, may have to come calling again, this time in search of Samuel. The New York Jets could also be players after going all-in for Asomugha and losing out in surprising fashion.

Keep an eye on Samuel as the NFL wheels keep turning in the next few days. The Eagles have a valuable trade piece and may walk away from the wild transaction period as bigger winners than they already are when all is said and done.
